WHO WE ARE

Tantraya synthesises practices drawn from the world’s great wisdom traditions into a coherent body of practice. Our approach is informed by Master’s-level academic study in related disciplines, together with decades of formal practice across numerous schools and under many teachers and masters.

The principle is simple. One person may attend a single class, ceremony or event, benefit from it, and never return. Another may continue training with us and specialise in a particular tradition, such as Daoism. Another may draw carefully selected practices from several traditions into a personal sādhana, or spiritual discipline. This is a guided process. We do not encourage random eclecticism. A student’s course of practice can be discussed and structured according to their interests, needs and level of experience.

Others may choose to engage with Tantraya more fully, participating in ayahuasca ceremonies at weekends while attending classes, workshops or retreats during the week. The extent and form of your involvement remain entirely your choice.

We do not claim to teach the whole of Buddhism, Daoism, Tantra or any other tradition. We teach those practices that, through long study and experience, we have found especially useful and effective. Where appropriate, they are presented with less of their original cultural framework, allowing their practical principles and wider applicability to become clearer.

This differs from perennialism, which commonly interprets traditions as expressions of the same ultimate truth. Tantraya does not assume that all traditions are ultimately identical. We respect each tradition as a distinct system, with its own history, methods, structures and aims.

At the same time, practices can sometimes be carefully separated from their customary cultural forms and understood at a more universal level. Tantraya is exploring and practising a developing approach founded upon traditional knowledge, disciplined study, direct experience, lineage transmission and initiation.
