Death, Dying and Rebirth

A meditation retreat · October 24–30, 2026 · Tantraya Center, Pisac, and online

To master death, one must die before one dies.

In this retreat we explore the fundamental question of death, dying and rebirth, drawing on the profound teachings of the world's great wisdom traditions.

The fear of death, and the confusion that can arise within it, lies at the root of all our fear. Learning to meet it now can set us free to live: fully, at ease, and in service to all.

What we will explore

  • Our fears and concerns around this great transition
  • The myths and teachings of what happens as we die
  • The Bardo Thödol, the Tibetan Book of the Dead: learning, practicing and understanding the in-between states
  • Tattva Shuddhi, the dissolution of the elements at death
  • Phowa, the transference of consciousness through the central channel at the moment of passing
  • Psychopomps, the guides, deities and teachers of the underworlds, the ancestral realms and the after-death realms
  • Practices that simulate the death state, to build familiarity, conquer fear and steady the mind
  • Approaching death with ease, comfort, peace, and even excitement
